Introduction

Established in 1965, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is a co-educational private, not-for-profit school with more than 1,700 students aged 3-18 years from over 60 countries. Its state-of-the-art campus is conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. ISKL combines a North American educational framework with global best practice, and is also an authorised IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The school is accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States. ISKL has a strong focus on service and sustainability across its divisions, and is a member of the Eco-Schools organisation and the Green Schools Alliance.

The High School programme comprises a challenging curriculum aimed at developing critical thinking, research techniques, problem-solving skills and exposure to a wide variety of subject perspectives. Students are taught and encouraged to pursue their potential through co-curricular activities and are challenged by innovative experiences such as the Global Action Programme (GAP) which combines service learning and outdoor activities in expeditions across Asia. This is an excellent way to prepare for life beyond school, at university and the workplace.

In Grades 9 and 10, all students are required to follow a core curriculum based on the five major academic areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies and a world language. The core curriculum is enhanced by a choice of over 100 elective courses in fine arts, applied arts, technology and physical education.

In Grade 11, students can choose to undertake the full two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or combine individual IB, Advanced Placement (AP) and High School Diploma courses. This enables students to create an individualised programme of study based on their interests, aspirations and university choices. The IB Diploma Programme is offered on a non-selective basis and students are also able to earn a Bilingual IB Diploma. ISKL’s IB Language and Literature courses are available in Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

All students who meet ISKL’s graduation requirements will receive a U.S. High School Diploma including those who complete the IBDP. Additional support for university selection, application and admission criteria is provided by specialist counsellors.
