The secondary curriculum comprises English, mathematics, science and technology, sport, languages and the arts reflecting the very best of British education, enhanced and enriched by our international context.

The curriculum is structured into three distinct phases: Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9), Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) and Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form) and follows the National Curriculum for England through to (I)GCSE and A Level.

Our academic results at the Secondary Campus are consistently excellent placing us among the best British international schools in the world.

In 2019, our students achieved outstanding results including 17 ‘Highest mark in Malaysia’ awards, one ‘Highest mark in Asia’ and three ‘Highest mark in the World’ in their (I)GCSE and A Level examinations.

At A Level:

  • 52% A* - A grades
  • 76% A* - B grades
  • 99% Pass rate

  • 27% awarded grade 9 (the highest attainable grade)
  • 66% A*-A grades or grades 9-7
  • 45% achieved A* or grades 9-8

Over 80% of Alice Smith students wanting to study in the UK have already accepted offers at UK Top 30 universities including prestigious Russell Group institutions, such as University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and LSE. In the US, students have secured places at top US colleges including Yale University and Brown University, both members of the elite Ivy League.

These results are even more remarkable when you consider that Alice Smith is not a highly selective school, unlike many other UK independent and international schools.

  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9)
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

Students build upon knowledge and understanding gained during their early education whilst developing their proficiency in a wide range of subjects through the acquisition of key learning skills.

Your child will learn English, mathematics, science and a modern foreign language whilst also specialising in subject areas which reflect their interests, strengths and aspirations. This stage culminates in (I)GCSE examinations.

Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form)

Alice Smith School offers a broad range of experiences in Key Stage 5 of which linear (2-year) A Levels are the main academic element.

Your child can tailor their curriculum to suit their interests, strengths, needs and aspirations and follow personalised pathways comprising of:

  • Enrichment activities (including leadership, service and physical activity)
  • The Extended Project Qualification; an individual research project on a topic of the student’s choice. This is equivalent to half of an A Level and prepares students for university through the development of key skills. You can read more about EPQ in our KLASS Blog here.

In addition, they are able to follow the ACHIEVE Programme which supports student development by helping them flourish as an individual. ACHIEVE is instrumental in driving our commitment to the development of KLASS Learner Attributes by ensuring that the wider aspects of your child’s development are addressed through the academic curriculum and a dedicated programme of learning experiences. This combination of experiences is bespoke to Alice Smith; each one being tailored to suit your child’s needs, strengths and preferences with the aim of nurturing wellbeing, character, personal awareness and self-confidence within a challenging, vibrant and supportive environment.

In addition to these experiences every student receives comprehensive support in careers education, university applications and preparation for life beyond school to ensure they leave us as accomplished, self-assured young people equipped to lead highly successful international lives.
