Introduction

Established in 1965, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is a co-educational private, not-for-profit school with more than 1,700 students aged 3-18 years from over 60 countries. Its state-of-the-art campus is conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. ISKL combines a North American educational framework with global best practice, and is also an authorised IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The school is accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States. ISKL has a strong focus on service and sustainability across its divisions, and is a member of the Eco-Schools organisation and the Green Schools Alliance.

The Middle School programme is designed to provide academic, physical and social challenges while allowing students to explore and develop their personal interests. The three-year programme serves as a bridge between Elementary and High School and is taught by educators who truly understand this important life stage. Required subjects include mathematics, science, humanities, physical education and world languages (Chinese, French or Spanish), while core and optional elective courses support these subjects to ensure students receive a well-rounded academic experience.

Students can study Chinese, French or Spanish at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, or further their Near Native / Mother Tongue Chinese. The Student Agency allows students to be more proactive in their education while a daily multi-grade homegroup programme promotes social integration between all students. Learning is enhanced by activities such as ‘Malaysia Week’, an outdoor interdisciplinary programme that takes place in local rainforests and reefs and combines service learning opportunities. Along with a balanced curriculum and wide range of co-curricular activities, students are supported by an educational psychologist and counselling team covering academic, social and emotional development.
