Introduction

Tenby Schools offer the option of following an international curriculum or the Malaysian National Curriculum.

The international primary school follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) based on the National Curriculum for England (UK), but adapted for international students. It employs a child-centred, thematic approach to learning with rigorous assessments, and is divided into two Key Stages. In Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7), core subjects taught include English, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT) alongside Geography, History, Design & Technology, Music and Physical Education. An additional foreign language of Chinese or French is introduced in Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11). At the end of Key Stage 2, students in Year 6 will go through Checkpoint test by Cambridge International Examinations.

Students (ages 7-12) who follow Malaysia’s national curriculum will go through the Primary School Standard Curriculum (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah; KSSR) which culminates in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination by the Malaysian Examination Syndicate in Primary 6. English is the primary mode of communication, and subjects offered include English, Bahasa Melayu, Chinese Language, Science, Mathematics, ICT, Design & Technology, Art, Music and History. Maths and Science are taught in English under the Dual Language Programme (DLP).
