The primary curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum (ENC) and has been enhanced and adapted to the school’s academic objectives. Encompassing Years 1 to 6 (ages 5 to 12), the school offers students not only academic opportunities, but also diverse co-curricular choices, including music, sports and community service projects. The focus on student happiness, through a robust positive education program, helps students achieve more than they thought possible while personalised learning supports each child.
Apart from the core subjects of English, maths and ICT, students in Years 1 to 4 are also taught a broad range of subjects including science, geography, art and design, and history. Years 5 and 6 become more subject-oriented led by specialist teachers and coaches. The low student-to-teacher ratio ensures that the children receive all the support and attention required for scholastic success.
The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) opened in 2009 and is part of the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) – the world’s leading premium education group with 68 schools in 29 countries. As part of this network, BSKL has strengthened its academic credentials and enhanced learning through several key initiatives. These include collaborations with some of the world’s most prestigious educational institutions including MIT, Juilliard and UNICEF, as well as access to the Global Campus, which allows students to learn new skills and develop a truly international perspective through online, in-school and worldwide experiences. BSKL is the first school in Asia to be awarded the COBIS (Council of British International Schools) Patron’s Accreditation.
