Introduction

Established in 1965, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is a co-educational private, not-for-profit school with more than 1,700 students aged 3-18 years from over 60 countries. Its state-of-the-art campus is conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. ISKL combines a North American educational framework with global best practice, and is also an authorised IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The school is accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States. ISKL has a strong focus on service and sustainability across its divisions, and is a member of the Eco-Schools organisation and the Green Schools Alliance.

ISKL’s Early Childhood programme (Prep Reception, Prep Junior and Prep Senior) is focused on learning through play and inspiring curiosity for young learners. The programme is based on developing and cultivating a child’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative skills through learning experiences and activities within structured and imaginative learning environments.

The Elementary School program (Grades 1-5) offers a standards-based curriculum that specifies what students should know and be able to do. As students progress through each grade, the complexity increases and a strong foundation in language, arts, mathematics, social studies, world languages and science is gained. The World Language programme includes Chinese and Spanish, with Bahasa Malaysia and mother-tongue Chinese offered after school.

To enhance learning, classrooms are equipped with a wide range of technology tools. There are also indoor and outdoor learning spaces including multi-sensory makerspaces, a child-friendly kitchen, woodworking, gardens and an art studio. With a dedicated team of education specialists, ISKL also provides extra support for language, literacy, social and emotional development.
