At the International School Leader Awards held in London in January 2019, The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) was awarded first prize in the category Initiative for Inclusion for its one-of-a-kind Life-Centred Education (LCE) programme.

The LCE programme supports students diagnosed with intellectual or developmental differences, and provides customised support from highly trained special educators, counsellors and educational psychologists. The students are taught and trained in non-restrictive integrated environments, and spend time in mainstream classes and participate in all aspects of school life, including academics, sports and after-school activities. ISKL’s new Ampang Hilir campus also has specially designed LCE classrooms where direct individualised attention is provided when needed.

The LCE programme was first introduced in 2015, and caters to both Middle and High School students; the programme is currently being developed for Elementary to ensure ISKL becomes a fully inclusive school.
