A special assembly was held to mark this important milestone on 14 February this year, which saw the entire AISM community come together to mark 20 years of excellence in education. “It’s the time to recognise the time, energy, effort and talent that continues to make AISM a school where students feel they belong, where students thrive and as a result, achieve amazing things,’ stated AISM’s Principal, Mr Liam King, during his opening speech.
Mr King’s speech was then followed by a brief history of AISM by the longest serving teacher in the school, Mr Ray Pollock, who joined AISM 18 years ago. For Mr Pollock, AISM is the place where school, work and community all come together happily. “Of all the schools I’ve been in my career, AISM is the best and the students are the thing that encourage me to stay year after year.”
The Australian International School Malaysia was an idea that began a little more than 20 years ago. This idea to offer children a holistic education preparing them for the future became reality in the beginning of February 2000. From temporary premises in the Country Heights estate, AISM moved into its current purpose-built school in October 2003. The school offers a dynamic learning environment, panoramic views of the green surrounds and lake. In March 2007, the school became part of the Taylor’s Education Group.
In early 2014, AISM celebrated its expansion with the development of its new Junior School and Performing Arts Centre increasing the school's capacity and catering to more students. The new complex featured open and flexible learning spaces that encouraged learning beyond the classroom, and purpose-built rooms for dance, drama, music, orchestra and a black box theatre.
Two decades later, AISM is now recognised as the first Visible Learning School in the world and has more than 500 students enrolled from the Early Learning Years through Year 12. The school is spread over 7.5 acres and is only 20km from central Kuala Lumpur; and has both primary and secondary classes on the same campus. Over the years, AISM has grown and offers a wide range of over 60 co-curricular programmes including boys’ and girls’ athletic teams, robotics and STEM.
AISM is looking forward to celebrating 20 years of providing excellent Australian education in Malaysia with some major events planned throughout the year. As of 2020, AISM has been re-accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), which is a testimony to the school's commitment to ensure students have the best education. The school was also awarded a 5-star rating by the Ministry of Education Malaysia for the school’s performance in the Quality Standards of Private Education (Schools) (Standard Kualiti Institusi Pendidikan Swasta – SKIPS) for three consecutive years.
AISM wishes to extend an invitation to potential students and their families to the events that will held during the year. On 7 June, there will be a triathlon that will be open to members of the public, and also in June, there will be a special exhibition showcasing the school’s history over the past 20 years. A Gala Dinner will be held in November, Twilight Picnic in December and Christmas carols to end the year on a high note.
